Rhinosinusitis Diagnosis & Treatment.

Rhinosinusitis is a very common problem. An estimated 35 million patients suffer from sinus pain each year. The term “sinusitis” is used to describe an inflammatory condition of the paranasal sinuses that causes many symptoms, including nasal congestion, facial pain/pressure and nasal discharge accompanied by pus.

Although most people think of the infection as involving the sinuses themselves, the truth is that the underlying process involves both the paranasal sinuses and the nasal cavity. For this reason, the term “rhinosinusitis” more accurately describes this disease than does the term “sinusitis.”

Dr. William C. Porter has specialized training in identifying patients with sinonasal disease. His skilled use of the fiberoptic scope enables him to recognize the differences between patients with nasal allergy, viral upper respiratory tract symptoms and bacterial rhinosinusitis. And he knows when to obtain a CT scan and when to refer for further investigation.

Setting the Valley’s standard for treating rhinosinusitis.

Dr. Porter also has many years of experience in treating rhinosinusitis, including bacterial rhinosinusitis, and is skilled in choosing the appropriate antibiotic therapy. Complicated sinus conditions can be more safely and effectively performed nowadays with functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Dr. Porter is highly experienced performing this as well as the traditional methods of sinus surgery.
